Your Introduction to the X2

There sheRevolver X2 BAK unloading a moto is, in all her open glory--that sounded way less perverse in my mind. You can see that the Revolver X2 provides 100% access to your entire truck bed while not blocking visibility out the rearview. But I could have just described a number of rolling covers. So what makes the X2 stand out? For starters, she's hard-core, literally. While the top skin is comprised of a weather resistant vinyl, underneath that Leather Grain Marine Grade Vinyl lurks the muscle behind this tonneau: strong aluminum slats run the length of the cover, providing extra security and durability. It is called the X2 because this isn't BAK's first time designing a quality roll-up cover. The X2 is a re-envisioning and upgrading of the original Roll-X line, and a number of technological & mechanical advances have been Close up of a closed Revolver X2 from BAK Industriesmade good use of in this new model roll-up tonneau. If you are looking for a roll-up that is hard, weather tight, and secure, look no further. Also, it looks pretty sick when you drop your tailgate, pull the release cable, and give the cover a shove, watching it roll-up easily whether from gate to cab or vice versa. And did I mention you can lock the cover just by rolling it closed and slamming down at the tailgate. In testing, we found if you roll it just right, it sometimes even triggers the lock automatically, though we'd recommend you double check it anyway, just in case. We'll run through all the features and upgrades in vivid detail in this extended review of the BAK Revolver X2, with picture highlights.

Her Undercarriage

I've titillated you with words, so now let's just go ahead and show you the goods. HereAluminum interlocking slats on the BAK Revolver X2 you can see the aluminum slots in action along with the locking lever mechanism. We also see the unlock cable here, with easy access from the tailgate. One of the key differences between a BAKFlip (or folding cover) and the Revolver X2 (a roll-up) is that this is the only cable you need to tug to unlock the whole tonneau, whereas on a tri-fold, if you want full access to the entirety of your bed, you'll need to pull each section's cable--kinda a pain! Furthermore, since the Revolver X2 can still be completely rolled up, giving fulll bed access along with the security typically only offered by a hard cover, it provides the best of both worlds. BAK Revolver X2 teeth that hold this cover in place when lockedThis is due to the patented locking rails--one of the biggest upgrades from the original model. The X2 includes both locking rails and locking blocks that are doubled in size (hence the "X2," okay, now I'm getting it), increasing security, making installation even easier, and providing superior off-highway performance (pot-hole proof). The locking level itself is three times thicker, reinforced by gussets for added strength as well. There is never any need to adjust anything. The 3/4" Patented Rotational Locking Rails simply work as designed, but how exactly is that. Let's break it down for you with some pics!

How the Locking Rails Work

This design3/4" Patented Rotational Locking Rails on the BAK Revolver x2 picture shows all the individual aspects that make the 3/4" Patented Rotational Locking Rails come together to serve security and roll-ability. When the lever is perpendicular (or down) the system is locked. When angled (or pushed up at the end) the cover can be rolled.

Ready to Roll or Secured in Segments

The individual The BAK Revolver X2 can be locked in place using the locking leverlocking blocks set or ride on the rail, making this tonneau cover easy to roll when unlocked but also providing additional support when in the locked position. This cover can only be locked when completely in a closed position. You can also secure it at the bulkhead with straps.

Locked in Place for Extreme Security

This diagramLocks in place using patented system: no velcro and more secure than your average vinyl cover shows how the patented system actually works. That locking tooth or rail extends down the whole length of the bed. Lowering the locking level at the end, pushes the tooth into the gap of the locking blocks, pinning it down onto the rail itself. No Velcro here! Just metal teeth!

No Stitching & No Velcro: Smooth & Secure

The Revolver X2Vinyl top layer with metal underneath: the Revolver X two from BAK has a sleek and smooth look when completely closed. It is almost zero profile, laying flush with the top of your truck bed and providing full access to all of your stake pocket holes for rack and other accessory use. There is no stitching at all. The Leather Grain Vinyl is seamless and refined. But the most important aspect of the Revolver X2 is the complete lack of Velcro. Some competitor roll-up hard covers use Velcro to "secure" the tonneau along the side Makes pocket stake holders useable with the Revolver X2 BAK Coveror rails of the truck bed. If you can recall the ease of use with Velcro from your childhood, then you can imagine just how insecure this really is. No Velcro here! The patented security locking rails explained above are the most important part of the system as far as security is concerned. Once locked in place, it is nigh impossible to get into this tonneau without opening the tailgate--protecting your equipment from prying eyes. Logo of the BAK Industries' Revolver X2 Rolling Tonneau CoverFurthermore, when rolled all the way open, a buckle system allows the cover to be locked in place at the bulkhead, allowing complete access to the entire bed. Again, this roll-up seems to provide the ease of access such tonneau's are known for with the security that is more commonly found in a hard cover fold or even a truck lid. That's superior security with flexibility & ease of use--truly the best of all worlds when it comes to bed covers at least.

No Drill Clamp

These clamps A No Drill, Easy to Do, DIY Clamp installation on the Revolver X2are easy to install and hold that locking rail in place. All you need is a wrench and a screwdriver to install.

No Drill Simple Installation

Similar to DIY Install on the BAK Revolver X2 Tonneau Coverthe BAKFlip line, installation is simple, using the shown No Drill Clamps which mount the locking rails to the truck bed. Installation can take as little as fifteen minutes. A BAK rep did personally give us some advise on install. Make sure the cover is square to your cab and sitting properly on the rails before you tighten up the front screws.Revolver X2 from BAK being rolled up easily one handed To double check if you have her square, close the gate gently onto the Universal Bulb Tailgate Seal. You want some compression on that seal so it is water-tight. If that's what you are getting consistently along the length of the tailgate, you are ready to tighten those screws up & finish the installation.

Foolproof Tailgate Seal

Speaking of A bulb universal tailgate seal on the Revolver X2 from BAKthat Bulb Tailgate Seal, it is universal, just like the premium BAKFlip line, meaning you can close the tailgate before or after you close the tonneau cover.

True Apotheosis of the Roll-Up Hard Tonneau Cover

After a detailedBAK RevolverX2 rolling tonneau cover with hard aluminum slats run-through of all the X2 has to offer, I have to conclude that this tonneau cover is the best roll-up hard cover currently on the market. It provides everything most consumers want in a cover: superior water resistance, the best security possible, ease of rolling up and locking, intuitive design, and that universal bulb seal so you don't have to close your tailgate before locking the cover down. Add in the 3 Year Warranty and a 400 lbs. evenly distributed weight rating and this is beyond top-of-the-line: a true apotheosis in cover design and execution. BAK has truly outdone itself this time. And again buyer beware, as some of the competitors may offerTop Down View of the Revolver X2 Rolled up with an ATV in the truck bed: BAK Industries a similar looking rollable hard cover design, but no one has this patented locking system except for BAK, and a few other lines do use Velcro to secure the sides of the cover, whereas BAK is using a metal locking tooth/rail to hold the cover in place. I don't know about you, but I'd much rather have a metal rail protecting my gear than Velcro--while I like to think of myself as Closed BAK Revolver X2 ATV unloadedbeing young at heart, I ain't no little kid. No Velcro for me! If you want the maximum security and functionality, the ability to easily roll-up your cover whenever needed all with hard cover protection, the Revolver X2 is where it's at for you and for me, baby!
