AVS Seamless Low Profile Ventvisor

The Lowest profile Vent Visor or Window Deflector currently on the Market

Low profile vent visors are designed to fit the contours and shapes of your window. AVS has nailed the function and form of these Ventvisors. If you’re looking for a window deflector that looks like it is an original part of your window and door, then look no further than AVS and their Low Profile Ventvisors.

A vent visor is often one of the first purchases many truck owners make when upgrading their truck. There are many great reasons to opt for a window deflector set. And if you’re looking for one that matches OE trims and other aftermarket products in matte black finishes, then the AVS Low Profile Ventvisor is a great choice too. But let’s run down all the great reasons to even start your window deflector search in the first place.

Why should I purchase vent visors for my truck?

What’s the purpose of window deflectors?

Window deflectors or vent visors have a number of great functions when properly installed on your vehicle’s windows:

  • Allow for air circulation via windows, even during the rain
  • Reduces and even prevents wind noise from the window seals
  • Crack your windows when parked to cool off your truck’s interior
  • Adds style and aerodynamics to your vehicle
  • Helps prevent and eliminate mirror and window fogging

The biggest and most obvious reason to purchase a vent visor is so that you can have your windows cracked whenever you want. Whether you’re the kinda guy who just likes fresh air or a smoker or vaper, you realize the need to have your window cracked, even in the rain or colder weather.

But if you’re not into keeping the windows cracked at all times, you might ponder the purpose of vent visors other than the aesthetic appeal. And don’t get me wrong. They look pretty sweet. And for the cost, even as an accent, you really can’t go wrong. Personally, I love the look and style of these AVS Low Profile Ventvisors. But if you’re looking for another reason, maybe to convince the spouse or girlfriend, then you’re in for a treat.

Listen up.

Low profile window deflectors, in particular, like this AVS Ventvisor, will actually improve the aerodynamics of your vehicle some. I’m not going to throw out any crazy MPG gains or anything like that because I’m sure the numbers aren’t high. But this is still an angle you could use as an explanation of why you just had to have those new vent visors.

So without running numbers or knowing the science behind it, how can I honestly say vent visors improve aerodynamics of your vehicle? Simple. If you have vent visors already remove them for the day. Now drive your truck onto a high speed section of road. Interstate highway will work best, but as long as you can get up to 60 or 70 MPH, this test will work. Get into a coast or set speed without getting on the accelerator too much.

Now turn off your radio or kill the volume completely.

Do you hear that?

It’s that strange rustling, windswept sound coming from either the passenger side or driver’s side window. That’s the air rushing past your a windshield and over your A-pillar before sucking back in at the window seal. There’s likely a little bump or rounded section that the air rushes around and over, before slamming down into or against the wind. On some vehicles this sound is more noticeable than others. Personally, I think I notice it more on my truck than my little commuter car, but that could just be me. And while the noise isn’t probably much, the faster you’re going and if you’re going into a headwind, the louder it will be.

Now reinstall (or install for the first time) your new AVS Low Profile Ventvisors. Repeat the test. You’ll notice the difference in noise levels right away. There you are. The Ventvisor has increased the aerodynamics, in a small way, but still. And if that noise currently gives you grave annoyance, let that be the reason to pick up some window deflectors today.

In a similar fashion, window visors help deflect some bugs and dirt away from your windows also at speed. Now they aren’t as likely to deflect rocks as say your hood protector will, but that’s mostly because rocks don’t tend to come at your vehicle from the side unless if you’re a mayor or celebrity who is particularly unpopular at the moment. You know who I’m talking about--*cough cough* George Lucas *cough* Jar-Jar *cough grumble cough*. Just playing, Star Wars fans. We love all the new episodes, except the one with the ridiculous plot. You know the one…

But speaking of the Sith, we should probably get to the ominous but quite true and realistic reason for vent visors. I know. No one, not even any of the manufacturers ever seem to want to say it, but we all know it's true.

The most common reason people install vent visors is…

They are smokers or vapers.

There. I said it. I’m not ashamed. I’m a former smoker / vaper myself. Reformed, you might say. And I can totally get behind this as a great reason to install window deflectors.

If you’ve ever been a smoker in the winter or on a long road trip, then you know exactly what I’m talking about. Flying down the highway in the frigid northern winters, with the winds rolled down a few inches--there’s nothing like it.

I think they used to call that game Freezing Out--as in you see who freezes first and then tells you to put out the damn cigarette and roll up the windows already.

But not with a window visor. Isolating the area and amount of wind that can rush in through the cracked window prevents the cold air from getting in as much. At the same time, a window visor can create a pocket of air that acts almost like a vacuum, pulling both smoke / vapor and any ash right out the window. Vent visors are a great invention for the smoker / vaper at the end of the day, and I’d be remiss not to say so.

Now personally, I don’t smoke anymore. Alright, I’ll have a cigar from time to time. So sue me. And I have all these other great reasons to have some AVS Ventvisors installed on my truck. And that’s great. But you know when these puppies really shined for me? Back in the Spring of last year I had an experience. Here’s what happened.

The Cigar Road Trip Show

So I was heading out on a short road trip to watch a certain amazing comedian perform. You know who I’m talking about! My man, Kyle Fields.

And the show was about an hours drive from work, so after I clocked out for the day, I had this bright idea. I’d swing on over to the local smoke shop and get a couple cigars for the road. I thought I’d have one on the way and then the other on the way home. Turns out that while the show was only an hour from work--get this--it was going to be closer to an hour and a half home afterwards. No problem.

I picked up a more economy smoke, say a $7 for the drive out--just a slow burning robusto. Nothing too fancy. But something I could smoke over the course of 30 or 40 minutes on the road.

But for the return trip, I splurged. I picked up a Gurkha Evil Torpedo. I’ve never been a huge fan of churchill sizes, but I do love me those torpedoes. But I digress.

The drive out was pretty uneventful, except to say that there was a constant side wind, blowing directly into my truck. There’s not always a lot of wind cover along our state roads, especially when you’re heading through farm country. So I was pretty happy to have my AVS Low Profile Ventvisors because I could have the windows cracked without too much wind punching its way into the cab.

The show was great. Hilarious, even. Pure comedy gold. You ever get the chance to see Kyle and / or Mr. Showtime, just do it.

And I was all amped up for the long ride home. And no, it wasn’t he booze that had me all excited. It was that Gurkha waiting for me in the truck.

But when I went outside, it started to sprinkle on me as I climbed into the cab. I got out my cutter anyway, in defiance. I got her blazed up and headed out on the trail, so to speak. But once I got onto the main drag out of town, the downpour hit.

And I am talking buckets of water here. This wasn’t no lazy summer shower. Nope. This was a torrent of rain.

And I thought to myself as I was rolling up the windows--there goes what just might be my greatest smoke ever. Wasted, I thought. But then I saw my AVS Ventvisors and remembered. I left the driver’s window cracked about an inch and a half, and you know what? I never even felt a drop of water hit me while I smoked that entire cigar on the long drive home.

Now before I have my AVS Low Profile Ventvisors, I’d done a number of trips back and forth to Colorado in my old Chevy C/K. And back then I was a cigarette smoker. For shame! And anytime late at night in the middle of Kansas, probably, it started to rain, you better bet I was getting wet or falling asleep at the wheel, cause that’s just what happened if I didn’t have that occasional (read constant) drag from my Camel Turkish Royals.

These days, I don’t smoke much, and when I do, it’s only the occasional cigar. But you better bet I’m glad I have my vent visors just in case the weather changes. Nothing worse, after all, than a ruined wet cigar.
