I have seen steel steps that are permanently bolted on to pinch welds on massive trucks that are only weighted for 300 to 400 lbs. And what’s so astounding about that is that AMP’s PowerSteps running boards themselves are made of aluminum. Typically aluminum is more lightweight than steel but also can’t handle quite as much of a load.

Well, guess what? AMP figured out how to do it anyway. And no joke, they have doubled the weight capacity of most other regular step bars, and their running boards retract!

Consider that for a second. These boards are attached to your vehicle using a hinged bracket with a motor. That means that every part of that hinge and motor and the boards and the places these parts all attach has to be better constructed and made of better material than just about any other step board on the market.

And they retract up under your vehicle when not in use.

And it would be one thing if these automated running boards just looked good. There are plenty of products on my truck right now that are really just for looks. There’s nothing wrong with that either.

But the AMP PowerSteps serve a vital function too. Just like regular step bars, these running boards help you get into and out of your vehicle. But whereas most other nerf bars only drop down 2 or 3 inches, since the AMP Research Power Steps are able to deploy when you need them and retract when you don’t, they can extend even further down towards the ground.

On average, according to an AMP rep, the Power Steps drop down 11 to 13 inches from your panels. That’s incredible.

And before you gloss over that, again consider why you might need or want this step in the first place.

Is it because you want an easy way to get up into and out of your truck cab?

Check. The additional inches of drop means it is even easier than most traditional steps.

Is it because your wife wants an easier time getting into your truck?

Double check, because no matter how tall or short you are, these steps are going to make the act of climbing up into your cab easier and more natural.
